Rarely I get a chance to work on something this iconic and old when it gets to guitar amplifiers. 1960 Fender Tweed Deluxe! This came to me from a friend who has a crazy collection of vintage amps.
All amplifiers this old need at least their electrolytics replaced and this was no exception. With shaking hands I got to work… :) First I did a cleanup: pots, jacks, interior. I used high quality Sprague Atoms to replace the old Astron electrolytics. Old caps were looong overdue.
One mustard cap that had been installed in the signal path I replaced with Astron to preserve original looks and values. These can also go leaky over time but in this amp they were just fine!
Speaker terminals were poorly soldered and one wire was hanging by a thread, fixed that also while it was open.
Result: Tone to die for! Check out Jucciz.com for more info and pics.
