Another preamp with a broken potentiometer, this time a Universal Audio 710 Twin-Finity hybrid valve/solid state preamp with malfunctioning balance-control.
It’s interesting to see how big names in audio industry are making their products. This is a combination of surface mount and through-hole components. High quality parts are used here, for example see the huge Wima caps in the pictures. There’s not so much stuff inside the box as you might expect, right? :)
Getting my hands on the broken pot meant taking apart the front panel which also holds the level meter. Finding a matching potentiometer to replace the broken one proved to be hard so I used a same value Alpha pot and ran short cables from the holes to the new pot. Old trick :)
Ta-da, working balance control!
This is a classy sounding no frills preamp which lets you blend tube and solid state tones. Very nice. Available @ Amazon, check here.
