Line 6 DL4 footswitch repair

The legendary Line 6 DL4 delay modeler. Very versatile and decent sounding unit is one of the favorite delays in hard working guitarist’s rig. It doesn’t come without faults though and one of them is poor quality footswitches. This unit had switching problems and I decided to replace the feeble actuator-activated mini pcb switches with one of the best footswitches around; Carling. They are not cheap but they are very good. To replace the old ones you have to take the unit completely apart. Potentiometer knobs are very tight so I had to pull them out with pliers. Rest of […]

I bring you…6 Shooter! Not really a stompbox but one of the biggest and laborious things I’ve built so far! It’s a 2 unit rack which has 6 different guitar effect circuits inside. This whole rack is meant to be used with a Rocktron Patchmate Loop 8 rack switcher+midi controller so each effect has a separate in/out jack on the back. There’s also an option for 7th effect on the back panel. Here’s a short explanation of what’s going on inside and a few notes of the mods I made: 1. Ross comp with variable recovery and treble mods. Thanks […]

Danelectro Fab Echo mods

This pedal is a sleeper. It is dirt cheap (~18€ in Finland) but has an SMD-version of PT2399 delay chip which is the same chip I used in my Time Machine and Hyperizer pedals… Originally Fab Echo doesn’t have an adjustable delay time and is fixed to just slapback echo. If you take out a resistor connected to pin 6 of the PT2399 and replace it with a 50-100k pot to ground you have a delay time control! I used a 50k mini pot to make it fit nicely beside the other pots. Just had to drill one hole for […]

Carl Martin Echotone footswitch replacement

My neighbour is a guitar instructor and had gotten a second hand Carl Martin Echotone delay. When he got it home he noticed one of its footswitches was broken… After disassembly the fault was obvious; footswitch was basically torn in half. Replacing that meant taking out all the pots, jacks, switches and circuit board as you can see in the pics. I stuck in a heavy duty 3pdt switch as a replacement and now the select switch works fine! All in all a good warm sounding delay with tap tempo and effects loop. No smd-components used which is a plus!

Another Time Machine, a nice analog sounding delay you just can’t stop playing with.. :) This time I made the Warp-control a momentary footswitch instead of latching, I think the effect is easier to control that way. Some sound samples: Recording chain: Telecaster->Hyperizer->Mixer->Soundcard->Cubase Amp simulator. Chorus/ Vibe sounds, adjusting while playing Playing with warp & adjusting time while playing.. :) Warping while playing

This is one of the most exciting things I’ve ever built! It’s an analog sounding delay with modulation (chorus, vibrato..). It also has switchable delay “trails” so when you switch the pedal off the delayed notes fade away slowly instead of cutting out instantly. “Warp”-switch sets feedback to maximum so it can create crazy self-oscillating sounds almost instantly which is really cool :) Playing hasn’t been this fun in years! Original circuit design by Ian Maltby (aka Slacker @ diystompboxes.com -forum. Because it’s quite a complicated build I got a ready made circuit board from Music PCB and I highly […]
